Goldfields Inclusion Group

The Goldfields Inclusion Group (GIG) has been established to encourage a collaborative partnership with community organizations, local education facilities, local council, local health and hospital facilities, recreation facilities and the business community.

The Goldfields Inclusion Group recognizes that a holistic approach is essential to the well-being and quality of life of all people and the GOLDFIELDS INCLUSION GROUP will aim to assist the inclusion of people with a disability in all facets of the community including recreation, employment, education and health.

GOLDFIELDS INCLUSION GROUP recognizes that people with “dis-abilities” are also people with abilities. They have a right to be respected and should be included and enabled to participate fully in community life.

Our group will aim to ensure that the community recognizes the importance of including people with disabilities in employment, recreation and education/training. We believe that true inclusion will benefit both business and our community by recognizing people’s ability, not focusing attention on our differences.

Within the specific area of recreation, GOLDFIELDS INCLUSION GROUP will address the modifications required to sporting facilities and will aim to raise awareness within sporting bodies to facilitate inclusion in recreation.

GOLDFIELDS INCLUSION GROUP will aim to advocate, support, encourage, promote, and build capacity to achieve the inclusion of all people in the community of the region.

GOLDFIELDS INCLUSION GROUP will aim to strengthen partnerships between the community, local services and agencies so that we can continue to build an inclusive community for all people.

The web site will provide a much needed resource for families and the community to make it easier to team up with another service or find a solution to specific needs.

The web site will be updated continuously with information of services available in the Goldfields and surrounding areas.  If you would like to add information on this web site please email the host agency: Career Contact Inc at employment@careercontact.com.au

leo

Leo is a Goldfields man in his mid thirties described as patient, tolerant and reliable by those who know him well.

After leaving school, Leo worked for many years in an assay lab locally but really, wanted a job that better matched his abilities and gave him more personal fulfillment.

Ultimately, it was Leo’s step to approach Career Contact in 2002 for assistance in finding a more personally satisfying full time occupation, which brought Leo closer to his personal goals.

Career planning sessions with Leo revealed his love with tinkering with mechanical things, particularly cars, and his real love of gardening.

As a direct result of Career Contact’s guidance, Leo now works full time at Canning Pool and Pump where their beautiful gardens in Hay Street, bear testimony to Leo’s care and skill.

Making use of his broader range of talents Leo is now also involved in swimming pool installations, pool maintenance and repairs.

He is also fully responsible for yard maintenance at the business premises. In employing Leo, the owners of Canning Pool and Pump Centre have discovered a kindred spirit, while Leo has found a virtual “home away from home”.

In 2006, the Goldfields Chamber of Commerce and Industry awarded the Goldfields Business Award of the Year, for ‘Businesses who support people with disability’, to Canning Pool and Pump Centre.

At this glittering annual event, Canning Pool and Pump Centre received all round applause for their support and encouragement of a man who really just wanted to work with his abilities, unhindered by a disability.

Bloomin’ marvellous!
